I really need a website where I can store files, perhaps larger than a gig. I've zipped up all my documents and am about to do so for the .exe files of my favourite programs. My laptop just keeps restarting itself. It used to happen occasionally, but it's been happening more and more lately. I'll be in the middle of something and it'll just restart itself and make me lose everything I'm working on if it's not in Simagic, which saves everything as I type. There are also times when my speech will jut freeze on me, and this is true with JFW 8 as well as Hal 6. So anyway, I'm reformatting early this coming week. I'm intending on buying a portable hard drive, but right now I just need an accessible website where I can upload my stuff. Thanks a million. I'm really going out of my mind here.
Are you sure you don't have any viruses on the computer?
Hi,
There is a service called ACE Share, but it is publically viewable by everything. You could zip it together and put it on ace share or on sendspace or individual on either. It's okay by me, I helped program ACE Share, but I'm not sure Tristan will approve.
www.xdrive.com gives you 5GB for free. You can eather sign up , or sign in with your AOL or AIM account. Yes, they've redesigned.
Wow! Thanks guys. Huge help. Now, for the xdrive, when you say it gives me 5 gigs, do you mean as a whole or for one file? Either way, it sounds terriffic. Also, how long will my files last and can I delete them? Man, this sounds perfect. Also, I've used sendspace, but as a receiver. How long do those files last and what's their file limit?
Sure,
X-Drive gives you 5 gigs in a whole, I don't think they have a specific file limit as long as it is under 5 gigs. For ACE Share, it gives you 1 gig per file, and as many files as you need, as long as its not like 100 gigs.
Mediafire.com is a sithe that will work. There is no limit to how many files you can put up there and no limit to file size.
It also really sounds like you have spyware or some such running on your computer, Visur Protection is not great at picking those things up, hve you run Ad Aware or any of the spyware killers on your computer, my friend does this regullarly for people and often finds up to 150 or 200 programs running on the laptops, registry cleaner is another nice one to run, think it's called CC Cleaner, www.filehippo.com is a great great resource for free or sharewre for all sorts of things, including scanning for malware, spyware and such.
cheers

Speaking of Ad-aware, Lavasoft has discontinued the updates to Ad-aware SE 1.06 Personal, the jaws friendly with scripts version,
I don't think that Ad-aware 2007 is accessible, anymore, and I haven't been able to find jaws scripts for it.
I have ad-aware 07, but am sighted, and there are heavy graphics, I don't think its accesible. I like CCleaner alot, I have it on every computer in the house, including my moms.
I had my heart set on using xdrive, but was unaware that you have to have an AOL scren name to use it. I tried for over an hour to sign up with them, but their audio captia was so horrible, garbled and with so much background junk that I just gave up. I think that's a record with me, since I'm usually good in noisy situations and can even understand heavy accents. For years, I've despised AOL and Yahoo because they refused to make audio available for their captia. Now I hate AOL even more because they did such a poor job that they might as well not have anything at all! I bet they just did it to shut us up. Anyway, I went to Furthermore, the actual AOL site is even more inaccessible than the last time I went there. Btw, I tried mediafire.com, but they only offer 100 mb at a time, and some of my files are over that amount. So I'm still searching for a sollution. A virtual hard drive like xdrive sounds cool, but if that won't work, does anyone know how much sendspace could handle?
Update! I thought this place was gone, but apparently, it still exists. And what do you know. Accessible captia!
http://www.divshare.com
Very happy now! Unlimited and free! I should write to these people.
sendspace can handle 5 gigs at a time. So can ACE Share if you want to use that. (ACE Share is at 1 gig but I can raise it for ya.)
get an external hard drive. I did it and I love it.
I said in the first post that I have all intentions of getting an external hard drive. I'll need one anyway when I get my ultraportable laptop. This is a nice workable sollution for now so I can transfer stuff while I reformat this machine.
I like mozy for backups. www.mozy.com
Yeah, I hear they're the best. But don't they have some kind of limits on their free accounts? In any case, using divshare and it's working beautifully. No limits and I can manage everything and my files never get deleted unless I delete them. Oh and it's free. *smile* But thanks for the suggestion.
